Charlene ConradCharlene Marie (Santee) Conrad, age 81, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, August 27, 2016, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the beloved wife of Duane Conrad, who survives. The couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this December.

Charlene was born March 5, 1935 to the late Stanley and Rosemary (Wright) Santee. Besides being a full-time mother to 5 sons, she was employed by Evergreen Local Schools for 35 years in the food service department. She was known to hundreds of students as the “Cafeteria Lady”. Much of her life was devoted to Evergreen where she also served as a union representative, elementary student mentor, classroom helper, music booster, FFA volunteer, and anywhere else she could lend a hand. Charlene loved her community.

She belonged to Lyons Christian Church and was a life-long member of the Czech Dancers Polka Club. Known for her cream puffs, wedding cakes and overall love of cooking, she enjoyed traveling, vegetable gardening and feeding her family and friends; especially her boys in the field.

In addition to her husband Duane, she is survived by her sons, Marc Conrad, Paul (Joselyn) Conrad, Brian (Sharon) Conrad, Terry (Shelly) Conrad, and Scott (Jennifer) Conrad; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Judy, wife of the late Robert Kinsman.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, August 31st from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor James Mann officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Music Boosters or Lyons Christian Church.
