The Williams County North Annex Building Renovation project is on schedule after contractors met Thursday, March 12, with Williams County Commissioner Scott Lirot to review construction progress.
The $1.4 million renovation project on the former Quillen building will provide office space for the county treasurer, auditor, and recorder offices and the county records department.
“We do these meetings every two weeks and it’s a construction progress update,” said Lirot. “All the contractors that are doing stuff to make sure everybody stays coordinated and nobody gets in anybody’s way, and nobody is waiting.”
Siebenaler Construction of Edon is the general contractor, and Garmann-Miller is the architect for the renovation project.
Stark’s Plumbing and Heating of Bryan is the plumbing and heating contractor, and Vogel Electric of Bryan is the electrical contractor. Doing the bricklaying work is a group of brick masons from Montpelier.
“Everybody here is a local contractor,” pointed out Lirot. “It’s important for us to make sure that we want to use local contractors. It was obviously a bid process.”
Lirot added that Siebenaler Construction had to bid against other contracting firms such as Rudolph-Libbe and other contractors from outside of the area.
During the meeting, contractors reported the elevator shaft was nearly complete and that work on the split-face block and bar joists was set to begin. The drywall and electrical work had been inspected and approved.
Contractors are looking at May 15 as the target date for the installation of a new elevator in the building.
In other construction issues, contractors discovered a gap on the building’s roof. The recommendation was to install foam board insulation to address the gap.
Lirot also arranged for local youth completing community service to remove ceiling tiles and handle demolition work, saving the county about $77,000.
“I was pretty proud of that, and the local youth learned something,” said Lirot. “They learned how to run screw-guns and did a wonderful job.”
The North Annex Building is scheduled to be completed in July or August of this year.
“Everything’s on schedule and going smoothly,” said Lirot. “Working with all the departments that are moving in here, everybody has an input on to how they liked things and help us lay out the walls. We all got in here with the architect and we hope that it’s a nice building.”
