Connie M. Purk, 88, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at the Laurels of Defiance on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

Connie was born on September 17, 1936 in Van Wert County, Ohio, daughter of the late Donald and Maxine (Brunni) Straw. Connie attended Farmer High School, graduating in the class of 1954.

She married Richard R. Purk, February 1971, in Bryan, Ohio and he preceded her in death on July 29, 2023.


Connie was a long-time employee of Plastech Corporation in the Molding Department, until her retirement. Connie was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church Ladies Aide and served as a teacher’s aide at Fairview Elementary School.

She was a member of County Cousins and a lifetime member of the Fairview Athletic Boosters. Connie enjoyed wintering in Palmetto, Florida, vegetable gardening, camping, going to garage sales and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Above all, she loved caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events and extracurricular activities.


Surviving are her four children; Charlene Alloway of Defiance, Ohio, Curtis (Sheila) Doan of Defiance, Ohio, Clint Doan of Ney, Ohio, Ronald (Joyce) Purk of Oak Harbor, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Amber Carrell, Abbey Alloway, Donnie (Christine) Doan, Dusty Doan, Monica (Matt) Oskey, Angela Purk, Amelia Purk, Nathan Purk, Josh (Sarah) Suffel, and Jena Suffel; 11 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Donna (Ned) Price and Monty (Diana) Straw; numerous nieces and nephews.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Purk; two daughters, Shelley Hartman and Debbie Zedaker.

Visitation for Connie will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, in the funeral home with Pastor Tom Graves officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Center Cemetery, Bryan.

Memorial contributions can be directed to Fairview Athletic Booster or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family or memories may be shared at www.oberlinturnbull.com
