HAMLER (May 30, 2026) — Murphy’s Law. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. A lot of things went wrong for Edgerton, and the Division VII title game against Leipsic was also the wrong time for those unfortunate events.

A missed first-inning scoring opportunity and six errors in the field doomed the Bulldogs in a 10-0 loss that ended Edgerton’s season.

Anything that can go wrong happened right off the jump in the first inning.

After Maddox Baker and Parker Elden each singled to put the Bulldogs at first and third with no one out, the Vikings’ Aaron Hazelton clamped down on the mound getting two strikeouts and a pop up to the catcher to end Edgerton’s best scoring chance of the day.

From that point on, Hazelton gave up just two hits the rest of the way. The adventures in the field began in the Vikings’ half of the second.

After working a 1-2-3 first, Baker walked a pair of Leipsic hitters, sandwiched around Myles Camareno’s base hit, to load the sacks with no outs.

That’s when the chaos began. Baker nailed Julian Zuniga with a pitch, forcing in the first run of the game.

Lane Vieira lined out to second, but the throw to first trying to double up a runner was wild allowing one run to score.

Then when a throw to third was offline attempting to cut down a Leipsic runner, a second run scored making it 3-0.

Edgerton had a shot at scoring in the third when Elden reached on an error and Jackson Flower got to first on an infield hit with one down.

Hazelton again retired the next pair of Bulldogs to keep a zero on the board for Edgerton.

Leipsic added on in the bottom of the inning. Hazelton drilled a double off the left field wall and scampered home on John Dewar’s single to left.

The gap widened in the fifth, thanks to two more Bulldog mistakes in the field. A hit batter and Hazelton’s second hit of the day, along with an ensuing throwing error, chalked up another tally.

Straight Line Outdoors

A second came home on a two-out throwing error that made it 6-0. Leipsic ended the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Base hits from Zuniga and Zac Lammers around an error brought in one run. A fielder’s choice grounder marked another before Hazelton ended it with a two-run single to right.

Hazelton walked two and struck out five while tossing a four-hit shutout. He also went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Leipsic advances to regional play with a 15-10 record, two of the losses earlier in the season in a pair of one-run games against Edgerton.

Buckeye Contracting

The Bulldogs bow out of the tournament with a 13-13-1 record.
