LIMA – For the second straight weekend, the Delta Panthers claimed another runner-up trophy in the two-day Thunderbird Wrestling Invitational held at Lima Central Catholic High School.
Apple Creek Waynedale claimed the team title with 281 ½ points followed by Delta (225), Woodmore (185), West Liberty Salem (121), Miami East (114 ½), Ashland Crestview (109 ½), Lima Central Catholic (109 ½), Covington (107), Tinora (103 ½), and Marion Elgin (101 ½) rounding out the top ten teams.
Three other area squads competed including Swanton who was 21st (47 ½), Montpelier was 36th (16) and Edon was 42nd (5 ½ points).
Delta claimed four individual titles with Tyler Barnes (126), Gunner Taylor (165), Marcus Nagel (175) and Brady Smith (285) taking gold.

In the finals, Barnes decisioned Isaak Skelly of Waynedale, 9-6. Taylor posted a 10-1 major decision over Maddox Kidd of Waynedale. Nagel scored a convincing 17-1 technical fall victory over Jack Srevens of Ashland Crestview. Smith posted a 13-2 major decision over Mason Shank of Bluffton.
Other place finishers for the Panthers were Lane Lopez who was third at 157 pounds. Luke Spiess (132) and Emilio Arroyo (215) were fourth. Thomas Hernandez (138) and Wyatt Flickinger (190) both placed fifth.
Swanton had a pair of place finishers. Exzander Borstelman was fourth at 106 pounds, and Chase Godwin was sixth at 157 pounds.
