An initial vote on the $7.6 million 2024 budget drew no discussion from members of the Delta Village Council at its last meeting.

According to Finance Director Stephanie Mossing, the budget includes no major changes from the 2023 budget. Included in the appropriations are just under $4 million for utilities, just over $1.5 million for the police department, and roughly $837,000 for transportation.

The budget will require two more votes for final passage.

RESIDENT WATER METER NOTIFICATIONS

Village Administrator Andy Glenn said he is looking into the possibility of setting up a system through which village water customers could set up notifications if their water usage was to exceed a set amount, potentially giving them advance notice of leaks or other issues.

All customers already have smart meters, which constantly broadcast readings. Those readings are currently only received when a contractor with a reader drives through the area and gets within a certain distance from the meter.

The notification system would require the installation of enough static receivers to get that meter information on a constant basis.

Glenn said he is waiting to find out how many receivers that would take based on the geographic location of all the meters and thus what the system would cost before he can determine whether it is a possibility. At that point he plans to bring the information to the council for a decision.

OTHER BUSINESS

The council gave first and final approval to a measure sending the village’s updated ordinances and resolutions from the past year to the Walter H. Drane Company, which provides printed copies and online access to complete versions.

The council approved on second reading an ordinance to declare certain property of the police department as surplus and to sell it to various buyers.

The council gave final approval to an agreement for the Fulton County Commission to provide indigent defense services in Fulton County Court proceedings.
