The Delta Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance to allow several signs for the new Love’s Travel Stop during its meeting Wednesday evening.

According to Village Administrator Chris Frazer, the largest of the six signs requested for approval was a 135-foot freestanding sign, intended to help nearby toll road traffic locate the business, which will be located on the northwest corner of the intersection of State Route 109 and County Road H.

During the Delta Village Council meeting earlier in the week, Love’s Travel Stop and Country Stores Inc. Real Estate Project Manager Steve Walters – while speaking to the council – responded to a resident who shared concerns about truck traffic mistakenly going down County Road H.

Frazer said Walters said Wednesday that “Love’s would also put a seventh sign on the property to prevent semitrailers from turning right onto County Road H.”

One resident at the zoning board meeting shared concerns about the project with the board. According to Frazer, resident Dana Phlegar, who owns a property across the street from the site, told the board she was concerned about having a hard time selling her property due to the travel stop.

In addition to his comments to the council, Walters also responded to Phlegar’s concerns. The board approved the variance with the seventh sign included.
