Dolores Martin (1928-2018)

Dolores “Dee” Martin, 90, of Pioneer, Ohio passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Hillside Country Living in Bryan. She was born on April 18, 1928 in Pioneer to Ed and Dinah Miller.

She graduated from Pioneer High School and also from Fort Wayne International Business College. On June 27, 1948 she married Lowell Martin in Pioneer and he survives.

Dolores worked as an executive secretary in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Bryan, Ohio. After retirement she worked part time with the United States Postal Service for 20 years in Pioneer.

Dolores was an accomplished pianist and organist. The joy of her heart was teaching piano lessons in her home to children and adults, in addition to being the church organist at Pioneer Evangelical Mennonite Church and Solid Rock Community Church in West Unity for a combined 50 years.

Dolores enjoyed painting, sewing and interior decorating. She was a member of the Sesqui Study Club in Pioneer, the Northwest Ohio Art Guild and a Charter Member of Solid Rock Community Church in West Unity. She and Lowell enjoyed traveling and a favorite trip was on their 50th wedding anniversary, when they traveled to Europe.


Dolores is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lowell Martin; four children, Greg (Mary) Martin of Angola, Indiana, Diane (Chuck) Blakeman of Denver. Colorado, Debra (Rick) Thompson of Vonore, Tennessee and Todd (Laura) Martin of Bristol, Indiana; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Diller of Saline, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glenn and Harry Miller; and sister, Pauline Humphrey.

In honoring Mrs. Martin’s wishes, all services will be private. She will be laid to rest at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
