HenryDonald E. Henry, Jr., age 85, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away Tuesday evening, September 8, 2015, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania.  He was born August 24, 1930 in Chesterfield Township to Donald E. and Velda L. (Viers) Henry.  Don was a 1949 graduate of Swanton High School.  He worked as a skilled carpenter for several area contractors, retiring in early 2000 as a supervisor for Capricorn.

Don married Nancy Emerson on July 8, 1997.  He served on the Metamora Village Council and was a member of the Metamora United Methodist Church. He was a friend of Bill W’s for over 30 years.  Don loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and working in his yard. He also enjoyed rooting on the Swanton Bulldogs Football Team.

Don will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Nancy; son, Stephen (Cece) Henry; daughters, Deborah (Robert) Halas and Brooke (Tracy) Schlipf, grandchildren, Robert Halas, II., Cherie (Mark) Zurawski, Amanda (Bryan) Floro, Kristen Shaffin, Derik Hurley, Danielle Hurley, Laura (Corey) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Grace, Karlee, Gavin, Veyda, Vylet, Ivy, Mackenzie, Brienna, Harper, Ava, Evan, Owen and Capri; stepsons, Richard (Eva) Morgan, Ronald Morgan, Roger (Marilyn) Wilhelm, Bradley Wilhelm, Robert Wilhelm; 14 step-grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Luella Strong; half-sister, Donna Gillen and his four legged companion, Lucky.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Duane Henry.


Visitation will be held Friday, September 11th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Tyler Kleeberger officiating.  Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cherry Street Missions, Ohio State Patrolmen’s Association, Fulton County Humane Society or Fulton County MRDD.
