Donald L. Perkins (1928 – 2014)

Donald L. Perkins, 85, of Huntington, passed away Friday April 18, 2014 at 12:19 am at Parkview Huntington Hospital. He graduated from Stryker High School in 1946 and Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1950. He served as a First Lieutenant in the US Marines in Korea from 1951 to 1953 and then in the reserves until 1958. He was a farmer in Williams County, Ohio and taught FFA at Attica High School. He worked in feed sales and farm insurance in Ohio and Michigan, before coming to Huntington to work in general maintenance of plants and equipment at Huntington Nursery for 28 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir, was a member of Chain-of-Lakes Barbershop Chorus, and belonged to Ohio Superior Lodge #179 F&AM in West Unity, Ohio, Eastern Star # 189 in Tiffin , Ohio, and Valley of Toledo York Rite.

Don was born October 29, 1928 in Stryker, Ohio, the son of Donald G. and Hazel (Reynolds) Perkins. On April 2, 1955 he married his beloved wife of 59 years Janet E. Nease in Gettysburg, Ohio, and she survives in Huntington. Also surviving are 2 sons Gary Alan (Julie) Perkins of Adrian, MI and Thad W. (Pam) Perkins of Suamico, WI, a daughter Brenda E. (Larry Jr.) Rosen of Huntington, 6 grandchildren Jason Perkins, Diane (Philip) Cosner, Sabrina (Dennis) Newcomb, Larry Rosen III, Kimberly Perkins, Aaron Perkins, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers Theron Perkins and Eldred Perkins and two sisters Helen Grisier and Ruth Perkins.

In lieu of flowers preferred memorials are to Trinity United Methodist Church c/o Deal-Rice Funeral Home, 338 E Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.
