Doris Copeland (1921-2021)

Doris Copeland, 100, of Montpelier passed away early Wednesday morning at Hillside Country Living in rural Bryan. She was born on April 8, 1921 in Montpelier to Elmer and Verle (Bechtol) Darby.

Doris married George L. Copeland in 1946, and he survives. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in May 2021, and have resided at Hillside Country Living since 2010. 

Doris graduated from Montpelier High School and went on to Wayne Cosmetology School in Fort Wayne. A hairdresser, she owned her own business for a few years in Montpelier, and spent many years as a full-time homemaker. 

Doris was a 65-plus year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, where she served in various ways throughout the years. 

Besides her husband, Doris is survived by her children: Jeri Adams of Chesterfield, IN; Paige (Dave) Miller of Archbold, OH; Pam (Frank) Day of Bowling Green, OH; and Steve (Mary Kay) Copeland of Rushville, NY; grandchildren Tony (Kate) Adams, Elizabeth (Joel Seitz) Adams, Scott (Loralie) Adams, Ben (Michele) Day, Tim Copeland, Chris (Jackie) Copeland, grandson-in-law Todd Wallace; and ten great -grandchildren. 


Doris was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Verle Darby, and granddaughter Kelly Day Wallace. 

There will be no visitation. A private family memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 3, 2021. Doris will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. 

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Montpelier or Hillside Country Living Activities Fund. Condolences can be left at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
