Edgar Sauder of Archbold, Ohio passed away on Tuesday evening, January 15, 2019 at the age of 101. Born April 20, 1917 in Archbold, he was the son of the late Emanuel M. Sauder and Cora (Baer) Sauder.

Edgar married Bonita Whitmer of Wauseon, Ohio in 1940.  They have celebrated 78 years of marriage and are the parents of five children: Mary Alice of Lancaster, PA, Ron (Jan) of Cincinnati, Karen (the late Norm) Wentz of Toledo, Warren (Cindy) of Archbold and Sher (John) Waidelich of Rockingham, VA as well as 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He attended Archbold country school and spent his entire working career (55 years) at Sauder Woodworking in various capacities.  During his employment and after his retirement, he sprayed lawns for weeds. He enjoyed working with wood and did a great deal of building, remodeling and cabinetmaking for his home along with many other items.

He was a life-long member of Central Mennonite Church although he was unable to attend services in recent years. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. Edgar and Bonita wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Florida many years.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by siblings Doris Yoder and Valetta Bonilla.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Orval Sauder, Lela Sauder, twin brothers Wilmer and Wilbur, who died at birth, and Loren Sauder.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Christian Church in Archbold. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at St. John’s Christian Church from 4-8 PM on Friday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Cherry Street Mission.
