
Phyllis Jean Safstrom of Pioneer, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio. She was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Branch County, Michigan, the daughter of Cyril and Ruth (Carpenter) Titus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Safstrom; and one daughter, Deborah King. She is survived by three children, Gail Ann (Mark) Maier of Arizona, Doug (Lori) Borton of Tecumseh, Michigan, Peggy Moor of Whitehouse, Ohio; her adopted daughter, Shannon Sponsler of Bryan, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Johnny (Sharon) Titus, Gary (Jean) Titus, Dallas (Kemm) Titus and Rick (Margey) Titus; and several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis and her husband, Richard, formerly owned and operated the Merry Lake Restaurant in Camden, Michigan. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her yard and taking care of her flowers. She was also a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family and friends and she will be missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Phyllis Jean Safstrom will be held at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hillsdale on Saturday, Jan. 19 beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Doug Plunkett officiating. Interment will take place in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home in Hillsdale, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and again from noon until the time of the service on Saturday.
