The Edgerton Village Council met on January 19th in regular session. All members were in attendance.
The meeting opened with Mayor Robert Day presenting his State of the Village Address. During his address Mayor Day spoke on the difficulties addressed during the COVID Pandemic, and how well Edgertionians adjusted and went on during the crisis.
Mayor Day spoke on accomplishments of the Village such as the Hull Street project which was repaved while adding new storm and water lines as well as sidewalks to the 100 block east and west.
The Mayor also praised the community with their help in painting fire hydrants and landscaping in Town Park and the Shelter House. In addition, Edgerton residents donated nearly $10,000 for Utility help for those in the Village that displayed a need for assistance.
Looking forward to 2021, Mayor Day is hopeful for the continued growth in the Village. The Laubach DR/ Miller Park project will continue to alleviate flooding issues that have been a problem for many years.
New park equipment, lighting, and cleanup is also on the agenda for 2021, as well as a focus on adding sidewalks for students walking to school.
The Mayor also introduced the Council to the new Law Director Chris Walker as well as new Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles.
In official business, the Council passed an ordinance revising the meeting schedule from the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month to the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month for the remainder of 2021.
Council also passed a supplement to the 2021 budget for a grant received through Public Entities Pool for 24- 42” Safety Cones.
Council also approved the individuals to serve on the 2021 Volunteer Firefighters’ Dependents Fund Board. The Board consists of five members Mike Krill, Fire Chief Scott Blue, Assistant Fire Chief Chad Schlie, Robert Day, and Denise Knect.
The Council also passed an amendment to the Electric Department and Water Department General Rules and Regulations due to the fact that when the changes were originally approved in October the rate for individual homes were kept at $100.00 versus the new rate of $150.00.
The Council also approved the resignation of Tracy Harding as a Part Time Police Officer citing personal reasons. The Board than approved advertising for a new Part Time Officer, as well as a Part Time Laborer.
In other news, Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles has hit the ground running familiarizing herself with current projects in the Village and filling out applications for grant funding.
She has met with the School to collaborate on various issues such as the Crosswalk on St Rt 49. She has also begun work on the Community Reinvestment Area, with hopes of bringing a resolution to Council soon.
The next meeting of the Edgerton Village Council will be Tuesday February 2nd.
