FFA REPORTER

On October 10, 2024 the Edgerton FFA chapter hosted the District Dairy Cattle Evaluation and housed the Dairy Products Contests hosted by Fulton County ag teachers.

At these contests FFA members are expected to evaluate classes. In Dairy Cattle there were 4 live classes of heifers and cows that members judged based on Dairy Character, overall udder makeup, and cow potential.

They also do Sire selections, pedigrees, and a 25-question test over the dairy industry. In Dairy Products students evaluate cheeses, milks, do a team scenario and test their knowledge about milk quality and products.

The Edgerton FFA Dairy Cattle team placed second overall. The individual team member rankings for Edgerton’s top 4 members were: Ayden Herman- 3rd Gretchen Keppeler- 5th Ava Herman- 17th Avrie Herman- 42nd overall. There were 11 other members that participated.

They were as follows: Abigail Fry, Noah Grandey, Giselle Romero, Ross Dockery, Alexis Grandey, Sam Dockery, Kaylynn Steffes, Ava Stutzman, Karalyn Balzer, Grace Herman, and Brayden Stark.

The top 4 participants have the opportunity to go on to the State Dairy Evaluation Contest this spring in Columbus. This competition consisted of over 250 kids.

Our dairy products team was made up of 4 members with Everett Wehri placing 1st on our team, Phebe Oliver, Payton Wehri, and Alyssa Landis.

We are proud of all our members for their hard work. We are glad we could host this competition and thankful for Mr. and Mrs. Grandey for allowing all the members to visit their farm for the dairy cattle contest, Arps Dairy for donating milk for all participants, KCCK farms for a practice farm and Krill Family for a practice farm.
