Edgerton Local Schools is set to honor and celebrate Veterans’ Day with a special event on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 9:00 A.M.

The celebration will take place in the High School Gymnasium, located at 111 East River Street, Edgerton, Ohio. The community is warmly invited to join in this significant occasion.

The program will commence with the Presentation of Colors by the John D. Smith American Legion Post 10 Color Guard, setting a respectful and patriotic tone for the event.

Attendees will also be treated to special musical performances by students from Grades PK-12, showcasing the talents and dedication of the school’s music and band programs.

A highlight of the event will be the keynote address by Master Chief Jon Ely, a distinguished veteran and 1977 graduate of Bryan High School.

Master Chief Ely enlisted in the Navy at the young age of 17 and served his country with distinction for 27 years. His illustrious career included involvement in several significant military operations, such as crossing the Line of Death in Libya, the Persian Gulf War with Operation Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort, and Desert Fox. He concluded his service as the Command Master Chief at the Naval Aviation Maintenance Training Facility in Norfolk, VA.

Throughout his military career, Master Chief Ely was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal from the President of the United States, four Navy Commendation Medals, and five Navy Achievement Medals.

In addition to his military achievements, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Aviation Safety from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

Master Chief Ely is a life member of VFW Post 2489 and a member of American Legion Post 284 in Bryan. He has been married to his wife, Lori, for 41 years, and together they have two daughters, Megan Elizabeth and Malorie Jean, as well as seven grandchildren.

Reserved parking will be available in front of the Elementary-Jr. High/High School Building for the convenience of guests.

The Edgerton Local Schools community looks forward to welcoming all attendees to this heartfelt celebration of service and sacrifice.
