The Village of Edgerton has excitedly awaited the arrival of the new Miller Park shelter house. As the project moves along, crews have been working diligently to take care of the old one left in its place.
Beginning on June 20, 2025, demolition began on the shelter house that sits at Miller Park in Edgerton.
Village employees advised residents to stay far from the building for the next one to two weeks so that crews are able to clear the debris and take care of the old building to prepare for the construction of the new one.
The original shelter house was built in the early 1970s and was donated to the village by the Edgerton Rotary Club.
For years, this building served as a venue for reunions, wedding receptions, graduation parties, and more. Sitting between the ball diamonds, park equipment, and pond, it was the perfect spot for community members to gather.
When the idea to build a new community center was introduced back in 2017, there was a slight gap of time before progress could be made.
In 2024, after being awarded $425,000 for the new shelter house project, the village finally could begin planning ideas and mapping out the new space.
Now, the old building has been completely demolished, and the land left behind awaits the construction of the brand new building, expanding about two and a half times the size of the original.
The new community center will feature several additions not found in the old building, along with modern upgrades to the amenities that were previously offered.
One of the best features residents are looking forward to is the addition of air conditioning to the new space, making the overall experience more enjoyable for long events, especially those on hot summer days.
Additionally, the interior plans to include amenities such as a fireplace, round-table seating, 25-foot ceilings, a warming-style kitchen with a concession stand window, energy-efficient lighting, a small meeting room, garage door openings, access to bathrooms, and more.
The Village of Edgerton is anticipating the project to be a huge success, with several citizens already making calls to ask when it will be available to reserve for parties and other events.
The Village of Edgerton Administration stated, “The demolition marks the next step toward the construction of the new Edgerton Community Center, a facility that will better serve the needs of our residents with updated amenities, increased accessibility, and improved community space for all ages.”
