Edgerton Top Edon In Finals of Route 49 Classic

December 29, 2013Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

HICKSIVILLE 12/21/2013—-The Edon Lady Bombers were unable to capture the Route 49 Classic Tournament Championship, as they would fall to Edgerton 41-30.

The Bombers would only be able to get three field goals to fall in the first quarter of play. Meanwhile, their opponents would hit seven of their field goal attempts, putting Edon in a 15-8 hole at the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldog’s lead increased by one point in the second period, as Edgerton would outscore Edon 10-9, giving the Bulldogs an eight point halftime lead, 25-17 over the Bombers.

Even though the Bombers were able to shut down the Bulldog offense coming out of halftime, they would not be able to mount any kind of comeback, because their own offense would struggle as well. Each team would score only six points a piece in the period. As the third came to a close, the Bulldogs held a 31-23 lead.

Edon would be unable to shrink the Bulldog lead in the final period of play, and the Bulldogs would go on to capture the Route 49 Championship, defeating Edon in the finals 41-30.

Scoring for Edon was lead by Gutting with seven, followed by Sonneberger and Gearhart with six a piece, Chrisman scored five, Kiess contributed four, and Matthews finished with two points.
