WEST UNITY – No. 3 seed Edgerton pulled way late in the first two sets and then dominated the third to knock off Antwerp in three sets 25-21, 25-17, 25-8 and advance to districts.
After taking an early 7-5 lead, Edgerton used a 10-5 run ending with kills from Sadie Walther and Ella Miller to take a 17-10 advantage.
Back-to-back kills from Corrine Cape helped pushed the lead the 24-18, but Antwerp would answer with three straight points before an Antwerp receiving error gave Edgerton a 25-21 win in the opening set.
The second set started the same as the first with neither team able to get a large lead before it was another 10-5 spurt from the Bulldogs to stretch a 7-5 lead to 17-10.
Edgerton maintained the lead for the remainder of the set with a kill from Noelle Ritter capping off a 25-17 win.
Edgerton took over the third set after it was briefly tied 2-2 by ripping off 14 of the next 18 points to take a 16-6 advantage.
Edgerton wrapped up the match with 9-2 run as Walther added two more kills and Taylor Smith put away a shot to end it.
Smith reached a career milestone early in the first set by recording the 1,000th kill of her Bulldog career.
The Bulldogs will meet No. 2 seed Hilltop (21-2) in the district semifinal on October 25 in Defiance.
