Edon High School presented their rendition of Footloose this past weekend. Taking place on Friday, November 22 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, November 24 at 2:00 pm, every seat was filled, and tickets were sold out before opening night even took place.
Originally performed back in 2013, Edon performed Footloose with a huge turnout. The successful and engaging show led to the 2024 cast having the same success.
The story of Footloose follows that of Ren McCormack, who accompanies his mother, Ethel, moving from the bustling city life of Chicago to the small, quiet town of Bomont.
There they find that no dancing is allowed– strictly enforced by all its citizens, especially by Reverend Shaw Moore.
The reason for the law? The Potawney Bridge Accident– where four young people drove off a bridge coming home from a dance, one being the son of Reverend Moore and his wife, Vi, and brother of Ariel.
After this, Reverend Moore and other members of the town council outlawed dancing and all the trouble that comes with it.
Ren, in complete shock of the outrageous law, finds a way to bring life back to the town. Along the way, he meets Willard Hewitt, a simple-minded country boy who teaches him the ways of the town.
He also meets Ariel Moore, the beautiful (and a tad scandalous) preacher’s daughter. Although she is known as the girlfriend of the rugged and dangerous Chuck Cranston, Ren knows he is meant to be with her.
Ariel’s friends Rusty, Urleen, and Wendy Jo try to help Ren with his plan to bring back dancing. Meanwhile, Ren catches Ariel’s eye and, despite her father’s feud with him, supports his stand on dancing and falls in love.
Throughout the story, hits from the movie including “Footloose”, “Holding Out for a Hero”, “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”, “Almost Paradise”, and more can be heard.
The cast included around 50 students. Emotional acting, rhythmic choreography, and musical talent was all demonstrated on stage. The show was a hit, and the cast, crew, and directors did an outstanding job!
