Contract renewals and shared services contracts were the focus of the light agenda addressed by Edon Northwest Local Board of Education during a special meeting held Monday, April 29, 2013 in the District Superintendent’s Office. President Jill Jacoby called the afternoon meeting to order with all members, Superintendent Ed Ewers and Treasurer Kerry Samples in attendance.

Convened to discuss employment of personnel, the Board emerged from a ten-minute Executive Session, requested at the meeting’s onset, and approved the Shared Treasurer’s Service Contract with Edgerton Local School District by a 4-1 vote. “This has been an ongoing conversation with Edgerton,” noted Superintendent Ewers. “Sharing services will have real benefits for [both] our districts.” Treasurer Kerry Samples’ thirty-seven month contract, effective July 1, 2013, will save each district approximately thirty-six thousand dollars annually.

As another cost-saving measure, members unanimously approved a three-year contract with Tammy Bostelman, Psychologist, bringing that responsibility in-house on July 1. “We [no longer] will be contracting psychologist services with ESC,” shared Ewers. “Actual services will increase with a Psychology Department under the ‘District’s umbrella’ ~ a needed entity within our school district and for the needs of our kids. It’s a really big plus for us.” Based on the same per diem rates, the District essentially will be receiving three days of “in-house” service per week verses two days per week of “contracted” services, with no added personnel.

In conjunction with this action, the Board approved a Shared Psychologist Services Contract with Edgerton Local School District as well. “With this option,” said Ewers, “we again are able to spread out our costs between the District and Edgerton Local School District, increasing our services not only by making this arrangement but also in making those services affordable for us.”
In other action taken, the Board:

  • Approved Teacher Contract Renewals for the 2013-2014 school year. Effective July 1, 2013 are: Continuing Contract ~ Amber Doble; Three-Year Contract ~ Annette Eyster, Pam Rupp, Two-Year Contract ~ Carl Sonneberger; One-Year Contract ~ Krista Cape, Brock England, Katie Germann, Jessica Horning, Kayle Kaman, Alisha Snyder and Errine Stump. Contract renewals are not routinely done; each individual teacher completed the evaluation process with his or her respective principal and was eligible for the contract recommended and approved at this time.
  • Approved an amendment to the contract with Treasurer/CFO Kerry Samples effective July 1, 2013 with a 4-1 vote.
  • Confirmed each member had received the required forty-eight hour advance notice of the Special Meeting.
  • Noted Edgerton Local School District would be voting to approve the Shared Treasurer and Psychologist Services Contracts during their next regular session. In essence, Edgerton District is purchasing services of personnel hired by the Edon District.

Members of the Edon Northwest Local Board of Education will meet in regular session Tuesday, May 14, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s Media Center.[/emember_protected]
