The Edon Board of Education met on March 8th in regular session. All members were present for the meeting.
During the meeting the Board approved the annual action of approving a contract with Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Board also approved a first reading of changes to Board Policies. Most of the changes have to do with the Title IX update from the US Congress.
The Board also accepted the resignations of Spanish Teacher Elizabeth Smithmyer effective at the end of the current contract year, and Head Varsity Basketball Coach Dale Curry.
The Board also approved supplemental contracts to Assistant Softball Volunteer Emily Towers, and Junior High Assistant Track Rebecca Harvey.
In other news, with the state raising capacity numbers for events recently as the COVID pandemic begins it’s decline, the District is hopeful that a prom will be able to be held this year.
There has been no official determination from the State, however. Another hope is to have graduation on the football field this year, with the gym being an alternate location if the weather does not cooperate.
Administration has met with Habitec to discuss installing new key fob doors on many of the common areas of the school.
Door that will receive new access doors would be the Athletic Director Office, Athletic Storage, Sound and Light Booth Mezzanine, Indoor Concession Stand, and the Training Room.
This will provide ease of access to these well used areas, and will give a record of those individuals entering those rooms. Cost to the District will be $5,500.
Finally, the district is in need of replacing 230 chrome books due to them reaching their end of life cycle. Three of the five quotes have been received and a Canadian Company has the lowest bid so far at $179 per machine.
Administration will have to look into the feasibility of using a foreign supplier since some grants require the purchases to be made from an American company.
The next meeting of the Edon Board of Education will be April 12th.
