The Edon Northwest Board of Education met on January 11th in regular session. All members were in attendance.
Before the regular meeting, an Organizational Meeting was held. Cody Best was elected to remain President of the Board and Jaime Schaffter will remain Board Vice-President. Meetings will continue to be the 2nd Monday of the month.
During the regular Board Meeting, it was announced that Northwest Township had donated additional COVID Relief money to the school district. The administration will use this money to help offset the increase in NOVA online learning due to more students using the service.
The Board also approved 2021 Ohio School Boards Association membership dues of $3,758, the OSBA Briefcase at no charge, and School Management News for $150. The Board also approved an Education Affiliation Agreement with The Ohio State University of Nursing for Undergraduate and Graduate Students.
It was reported that the Gym lighting had been replaced during the winter break with LEDs. Estimated savings using the new lighting is 50% off the old lighting. The District will now look into other opportunities to install LED lighting.
A new bus has been ordered. Due to the current demand, it will be a couple of months before the bus will arrive.
The Board also approved the following supplemental contracts for the 2020-2021 school year: Jamison Wiesel-Assistant Track Coach, Cassandra Schaffner and Kenny Ordway-Assistant Track Coaches at 50%, Frank Parrish, Andy Gearhart, and Jeremy Trent- Assistant Track Volunteers.
Finally, the Junior Class parents have requested to be allowed to hold a fundraising gun raffle. The Board wanted to check with their legal department, but as long as the event is held as an outside event with the proceeds being donated to the school it should be approved.
The next meeting of the Edon Northwest Board of Education will be February 8th.
