EDON VILLAGE COUNCIL: Residents Facing Stiff Charges For Overgrown Lawns

The Village of Edon held their June 19, 2023 village council meeting at 7 p.m., starting with the pledge of allegiance.

Councilors David Loughborough, Brook Morris, Brandon Thiel, Austin Thiel, Lee Lawrence, and Dan Ankney were present, with Mayor Duane Thiel presiding.

After the approval of the previous meeting’s minutes, the financial statements, and bills as presented, council was reminded that the village offices will be closed July 3rd and 4th.

Councilor Lawrence then updated council on the process for proper pricing for the Phase II of the inclusive playground equipment.

Village Administrator Chad Ordway then shared how valves are almost done being exercised, and that he received an email this week confirming that Edon was not awarded grant funding this round for the downtown project.

Applications for the next round of funding are being submitted for this project currently.

Council then suspended the rules and passed Resolution 02-23 on its first reading, approving ORC code updates to a resolution originally passed in 2021 for the County Reinvestment Area Program (CRA). This resolution was needed due to updates in the housing rules.

Then also approved on its first reading after the rules were suspended was Resolution 03-23, which accepted the Williams County Budget Allocation for statutory real-estate tax.

Then discussed were the parameters of who should compose the CRA Housing Council before addressing recent blight issues.

Village residents that have not upkept their lawns will soon face a stiff fine, as well as see village officials on their property for maintenance, which will then be billed to the property owner.

Issues were then brought up over ball game attendees parking in the turn-around at the end of Bunny Lane. The village is working to figure out a solution to the problem.

The June 19, 2023 Edon Village Council meeting was then adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
