The Evergreen Local Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Ten visitors attended the session.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, the board quickly moved through its opening business, approving the minutes from the September meetings along with the monthly financial reports.
These included the cash reconciliation, financial summary, cash summary, and disbursement summary for September.
Early in the meeting, the board recognized direct support for students and staff. A $100 anonymous donation was accepted for the Student Assistance Fund.
Two grants were also acknowledged, one for $2,600 from NBHP to support employee wellness and another for $33,305.98 from the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Several fund transfers and appropriation changes were approved to reflect those contributions.
Personnel matters took up the next portion of the meeting. The district added substitute staff for technology, transportation, and intervention support, pending licensure and background checks.
Supplemental contracts were approved for winter sports, including basketball, wrestling, and bowling, with both paid and volunteer positions.
The board also voted to bring in U.S. OMNI and TSACG Compliance Services as the new third-party administrator for the district’s four hundred three b and four hundred fifty-seven b retirement plans.
Girls’ wrestling also came into focus. The board approved Evergreen High School’s female student athletes to compete under the school’s name this season, with qualified adult volunteers overseeing the program. Officials noted that discussions are underway to make girls’ wrestling a fully sanctioned varsity sport in the future.
Policy and student opportunities followed. Members approved Special Education Model Policies and Procedures required by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
They also gave permission for FFA students to attend the Ohio FFA Mission and Impact Conference in Columbus on January 17 and 18, 2026, with teacher Alexis Howell serving as the trip supervisor.
Administrative reports highlighted several community touchpoints. Leaders expressed appreciation for the Meet the Candidates Night held on October 8 and encouraged residents to attend upcoming Community Conversations on October 22 at the U.S. 20 Diner in Lyons and October 23 at the Country Charm Café in Metamora.
The district’s Veterans Day program will take place on November 11 at 9:00 a.m. in the EHS gym, and the public is invited.
Transportation safety was also discussed. An Ohio Department of Transportation review of the intersection at U.S. 20 and County Road 6 found no sight-distance issues along U.S. 20 but recommended moving the stop lines on County Road 6 closer to improve visibility.
Administrators also discussed culture-building efforts tied to the district’s strategic plan, including collaboration with the Impact Group of Hudson and planning a February professional development day focused on staff culture.
The financial portion of the discussion turned to House Bill 186-6. Evergreen officials stated that the district could lose more than $2.2 million over three years if the bill passes.
Fulton County superintendents are already reaching out to lawmakers, and community members were encouraged to make their voices heard.
Board members echoed the urgency, with one suggesting a meeting to discuss potential safety upgrades at U.S. 20 and County Road 6, such as a timed signal or warning system.
Another noted ongoing communication with State Senator Theresa Gavarone and State Representative Jim Hoops regarding state funding. Questions were also raised about whether additional part-time staffing is needed to maintain the softball and baseball fields.
The board’s next regular meeting will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Loren Pennington Learning Center.
