On the 15th and 16th of April Evergreen High School will be presenting, for your viewing pleasure, Once Upon a Mattress, a musical based on an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Princess and the Pea, first published in 1835. The musical opened as an off-Broadway production in 1959 and has become a mainstay on Broadway, in civic theatres and for high schools around the world.

The basic plot revolves around a prince who is desperate to get married and his mother, the queen, who devises a test for would be brides that, by design, is virtually impossible to pass.

Once Upon a Mattress requires a lot of bodies to pull off and presents quite a challenge for a school the size of Evergreen. “We have over fifty students in the cast,” explained director and Evergreen faculty member Kristen Woodard. “Over sixty will be involved on show night be set and stage crew and helping with technicals.”

Tickets go on sale on April 5th and are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and senior citizens. Reservations can be made by calling the high school at 419-644-3521. The show time for both evenings is 7:30 PM.
