The Evergreen School Board held their meeting on Monday, October 18th at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call.
The board first moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting held on September 20th. Next, the board moved to hear concerns of the public.
Lisa Keller went first and addressed the board in regard to student safety. Jerod Schmidt was next and asked the board questions regarding the district’s drug testing policy.
Following public participation, the board moved to approve the September 2021 financial reports including the cash reconciliation, financial summary, cash summary, and disbursement summary.
The board also moved to accept the following donations, a $100 anonymous donation to the Student Assistance Fund, $15,000 donation from the Evergreen Athletic Boosters to the athletic department for uniforms, and $60 from Snowy Summers to the Elementary Principals Fund.
Next, approval was given for several appropriation modifications and the NBHP Employee Wellness Grant in the amount of $2,640.
The board then moved to approve an auxiliary services agreement with the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West for the 2021-2022 school year in the amount of $77,630.40 for the services of auxiliary services personnel for the benefit of the Holy Trinity School and to amend resources and modify appropriations accordingly.
The board then moved to personnel where they approved several positions for volunteer coaches, limited and supplemental contracts and a resignation.
The board then moved to approve the proposed new policies and existing policy revisions. In all, 26 policies were either added or revised. Approval was then given for the placement of an Evergreen Community Library kiosk on the Evergreen Local Schools Campus.
The locker/kiosk will serve as a pick-up location for reserved materials as well as a drop box for library items. The library will cover the cost of the installation as well as the upkeep.
The board then moved to approve student athlete participation in the 2021-2022 indoor track and field season using the Evergreen High School name.
Approval was also given for an overnight trip for the Evergreen Girls Basketball team to participate in the Wayne Roller Holiday Classic Showcase that will be held at the Mansfield Christian School.
The basketball team will be competing against teams from across the state and will depart on December 30th, 2021 and return on December 31st, 2021. Coaches will be attending the trip as supervisors.
The board then discussed the districts substitute compensation level. Consideration will be given to increase all substitute compensation to remain competitive with neighboring districts and to help alleviate sub shortages at the schools.
The renovation and expansion project was then discussed with the consensus being that everything was proceeding on schedule. Regional banners were then discussed with it being decided to have additional recognition of regional finalists that will be added to the wall and athletic handbook.
The 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school calendars had previously been finished and were discussed. An update was then given by the school principals on activities for the previous month as well as an update on the State Report Card. The Superintendent also informed the board that COVID numbers continue to decline. The board then moved to adjourn for the evening.
The next meeting will take place on November 15th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Loren Pennington Learning Center at the High School.
