(Februrary 13rh, 2015) – FAYETTE: In a battle for Buckeye Border Conference junior varsity supremacy, the Hilltop Cadets crossed the county line to take on their eager hosts, the Eagles of Fayette.
It took a bit of time for each squad to discover their respective offenses. Fayette came out of the first period with a narrow 6-3 lead. The Cadet boys were able to erase that advantage in the second quarter, however, taking the period 9-6. This put the two teams in a 12-12 tie at the half.
Things picked up even more offensively in the third period. The Eagles reclaimed control of the contest thanks to a 14-10 effort in the quarter. On the wrong end of a 26-22 deficit, the Cadets knew they had to make a big move in the fourth quarter if they were going to win the game.
That move never came, though. Fayette would simply not allow themselves to be outscored in the final stanza, matching the 12 point burst offered up by the Hilltop boys. Without being able to make up any ground on the hometown Eagles, the Cadets lost the game 38-34.
Kristian Grapengeter, a freshman, led all scorers, putting up 16 points on the Hilltop boys’ behalf. For the Eagles, it was freshman Grant Reinking who produced the most points with 12.
