The Fayette Village Council meeting took place April 16th, at 6 p.m. In attendance were council members; Katie Colegrove, Brenda Shoemaker, Greg Gable, Suzette Boesger, and Brittany Theis. Also present was Mayor David Borer.
The meeting opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. There were a few minor changes to the agenda, including removing the legislative action piece, as there were no legislative movements to be made.
The council approved the minutes from last month’s regular meeting, the special session held on April 2nd, and the Committee of the Whole minutes from April 8th.
Fayette had one visitor, Connie Wagner from the American Legion. She presented updates on the veteran banners to be placed around town.
There were a total of 72 last year, and Wagner plans on adding six additional banners, marking 78 altogether.
She hopes to continue adding more and more each year and eventually making the way down the street to the American Legion.
She reminded the council that these include all branches of the military, including; Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and the Coast Guard.
Mayor Borer read a letter from the Ohio Department of National Resources. It stated that Harrison Lake State Park was recently recognized as the number one state park in Ohio, beating over 76 parks.
They were rewarded this due their excellence in safety and security in the year of 2025. He noted that no individual could receive this award, as it was a team effort.
Moving to the mayor’s report, which included multiple recent upcoming events that the village is hosting. A calendar including all local affairs can be picked up at the Village Office. April and the beginning of May are shaping up to be very busy months for Fayette.
The administrator report, also given by the mayor, indicated that the radar signs have officially arrived, and the EPW crew will be installing them in the following weeks to come. “We hope to see this aid in the decrease of speeding traffic around the village,” Borer read.
The village reported their participation in the CBG grant hearing at the Williams County Commissioner’s Office. They will be rewarded the funds that are available, which is currently $120,000, but could be subject to change.
The Maumee Planning Committee applied for $20,000 worth of the grant, and the village is hoping to receive the remainder of the funds.
There is a joint-effort project between the township and Fayette to repave and possibly widen Gamble Road, located by the school. The county engineer office will apply for the money, as the applications need to be fully submitted by June. The award will be in September of this year, and hopefully the project will be underway by 2026.
The fiscal officer report stated the ordinances passed in last month’s meeting have been passed and approved by the county. The clerk requested a special session, held on May 14th, in order to pay some of the bills that will be popping up.
The council then moved on to the reading of April’s ordinances and resolutions. Suspended and then accepted and passed were the following;
-Resolution 2025-06, authorizing the participation in the ODOT Road Salt Contracts awarded in 2025.
-Resolution 2025-08, authorizing and approving the contract between the Village of Fayette and Fulton County for the purpose of Camp Palmer Sewer Services.
-Ordnance 2025-7, amending ordinance 2024-14 setting the wages, salaries and medical benefits for the employees of officials of the Village of Fayette, Fulton County, Ohio for the 2025 year.
New business included the recent farmland bids. To the council’s surprise, there were two bids presented for the purchase of surrounding acres. It was awarded to Mike Bussing, who had the higher bid offer.
With no further business to attend to, the council called the meeting to adjourn at 6:40pm.
