Floyd Puffenberger (1933-2018)

Floyd Elwyn Puffenberger, 85 years, of Bryan, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center, with his family at his side.  Floyd was born March 11, 1933 in Bryan, the son of the late Floyd Eldridge and Gertrude (Hoover) Puffenberger. 

He was a 1951 graduate of Bryan High School.  He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.  Floyd worked as a Machinist for the former Hayes-Albion until they closed.  He then worked for Dietrich Industries in Hicksville until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Hicksville First Church of Christ and the Marine Corps League in Defiance. 

Floyd enjoyed farming and tending to his garden.  He was known for growing tomato plants and offering tomatoes for everyone to enjoy. Floyd was known as the candy man, often handing out candy to others.

Surviving are his six children, Chris (Mark Bever) Kuehne of Bryan, Dan (Ariana) Puffenberger of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Nancy (Joe) Nestor of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Alan Puffenberger of Browns Summit, North Carolina, Dirk (Sheila) Puffenberger of Fremont, Indiana and Dale (Annette) Vaughn of Jonesville, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Addie Boucher of Bryan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard Wisman; four sisters, Berneda Allshouse, Paulina Hollinger, Charlene Sostoi and Margaret Schnittker.


Visitation for Floyd Elwyn Puffenberger will be held from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m Monday, November 5, 2018 in Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home–Greenisen Chapel, 225 East High Street, Bryan. Memorial Services will be held Monday beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Nick Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier. Military Graveside rites performed by Montpelier Veterans.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Christmas for Kids – C/O: Herman Hesselschwardt Detachment, Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 164, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
