EDGERTON – Longtime Edgerton wrestling head coach Bill Fowler was recently inducted into the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame on November 3rd in Columbus.
Fowler, who has been described as “the face of Edgerton wrestling” guided the Bulldogs from 1969 until his retirement in 2001.
Fowler coached his first state qualifier in 1971 and would have another 53 state qualifiers during his career. Fowler had a stretch of state qualifiers every year from 1976-1993.
His teams finished in the top ten of the state championships seven times and captured one district title.
From those 54 state qualifiers, Fowler had four individual state champions and 29 state placers. He was chosen as the OHSAA Division III Coach of the Year in 1982.
The Edgerton School Board recently honored him with naming the school’s wrestling facility the “Bill Fowler Wrestling Room.”
Fowler and the rest of the Class of 2025 will be recognized at the state tournament in March.
