The Museum of Fulton County held its first Senior Discovery Day on Thursday, January 15th, welcoming older adults for a morning of history, conversation, and hands on activities from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The new program is designed to take place every third Thursday of the month and is aimed at encouraging seniors to connect with the museum in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
Each session will feature refreshments along with a rotating activity or educational focus.
The inaugural event centered on the life and legacy of Marjorie Whiteman, a Liberty Center native who graduated from Wauseon High School and later became a close friend and advisor to Eleanor Roosevelt.
Whiteman, born in 1898, played a key role in helping draft foundational United Nations documents, among other important documents.
As part of the program, attendees participated in a tea tasting featuring several varieties inspired by Whiteman, accompanied by baked goods and refreshments.
Participants also took part in a simple craft activity tied to the tea theme, creating decorative sachets designed to resemble tea bags and filled with scented materials.
Next month in February, the session will offer a behind the scenes look at museum operations, including how donated items are processed and how exhibits are developed from concept to display.
The program carries a $5 fee to help cover supplies for activities, with free admission to the museum included.
Seniors are welcome to participate fully or simply enjoy the refreshments and social atmosphere.
