The Jefferson Township Trustees met April 6, 2026, to discuss recent flooding at the intersection of County Road 16 and County Road M. Trustees Austin Poynter, Scott Oberlin and Brian Batterson, along with Fiscal Officer Linda Beck, were in attendance.
Following recent rainstorms, the intersection has experienced significant flooding and is currently closed. The standing water has made the roadway impassable.
“It’s never flooded like this, but it has always flooded,” commented Oberlin. “Not like this,” agreed Poynter. “At least not in the eleven or twelve years I’ve been there.”
A road survey for the township is underway. Trustees indicated that only a small number of locations may need chip and seal work this year.
Repairs to the 17.75 are under consideration, with a previous project estimate of $50,000 received last year. An updated quote will be requested from the same company as the township continues its evaluation.
Batterson provided an update on the Selwyn Drive project, noting that he is awaiting results from the funding application.
If awarded, the township expects to receive notice in June or July. Bids will be sought in August, with construction anticipated to begin in September 2026.
In other business, trustees approved bills and employee timesheets. They reported four fire runs with Montpelier coverage.
The Jefferson Township Trustees adjourned at 7:45 p.m. The next Jefferson Township meeting will take place Monday, April 20, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
