A new chapter has begun for a long-standing Wauseon business. Fulton Industries, a company with deep historical roots in the community, held a ribbon cutting ceremony together with the Wauseon Chamber of Commerce on Friday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m.
The company originally began operations back in the 1930s, manufacturing flashlights for the government, with one huge achievement being that their flashlights were used on the Apollo missions. While flashlight production still continues today, Fulton Industries has evolved over the decades to specialize in metal stamping.
The company now primarily serves the automotive industry by producing parts such as spring retainers and other small components that are vital to braking, steering, and powertrain systems.
Ownership of the company recently changed hands, with Tyler Pilmore purchasing the business in November of 2024. Pilmore’s background includes extensive experience in sheet metal fabrication, along with knowledge of structural steel fabrication.
He explained that he had long dreamed of owning a manufacturing business and was drawn to the history and potential of Fulton Industries.
The Fulton Industries facility is split into two operational sides. One side will continue to focus on capacitive stamping, with plans for growth, while the other side is slated for investment into different types of manufacturing. At the same time, the company remains committed to supporting its flashlight production.
When asked about his vision for the future, Pilmore emphasized the importance of team building and community pride.
“I think the goal was to buy a manufacturing business and grow it. We have a lot of wonderful people that work here and it’s about growing that team and providing a great living for those here.”
Pilmore also shared his appreciation for the employees’ passion for the company and their pride in being part of the Wauseon community. “I am very excited to finally own a manufacturing business.’
“One of the things that surprised me and made me most happy is how proud the employees are to work here and have it be a part of the Wauseon community.”
