(Cook At Ramada Inn In Holiday City)
Gertie Ellen Paxton, age 82, of Bryan, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, with her family at her side. The daughter of the late John and Geraldine (Saurbeck) Sprow, Gertie was born on March 24, 1942.
She worked as a cook at Lester’s Diner for 10 years followed by The Ramada Inn in Holiday City for over 30 years. On March 16, 1966, Gertie married her husband, Wilbur “Bud” Paxton.
Cooking, baking, sewing and saving the economy were her favorite pastimes. She also found immense joy in making candy.
When it came time to make candy, it was always a grand occasion that she dedicated many hours to with enthusiasm. Gertie’s greatest happiness came from spoiling kids and spending time with family.
Gertie is survived by her children, Terry (Jewell) Paxton and Teresa (David) Wines; grandchildren, Tony, Lisa, James, Jacob, Scott, Cody and Zach; great-grandson, Jonathan; and sisters, Betty Harmount and Iris Yagel; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Ryan; sisters, Sheila Talarico, Penny Johnson, Sue Sprow, Robin Dekker and Clara LaRue Sprow; brother Gerald Sprow; and infant brother, Lynn Dell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Krill Funeral Home, 860 W. Mulberry St., Bryan, Ohio and one hour prior to funeral service. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Fountain Grove Cemetery.
