PETTISVILLE (December 5, 2025) — A fast start, speedy and strategic ball movement, and a strong defensive presence carried the Pettisville Blackbirds to a 37-22 victory over the North Central Eagles on Friday night.

Pettisville dictated the pace of the game from the opening tip and got an early double-digit lead over North Central and never allowing the Eagles to fully recover.

The Blackbirds wasted no time building momentum very early in the game, striking first with quick passing sequences between Madison Miller, Becca Strauss, and others.

Strauss was active from the very beginning, converting inside and helping generate early transition looks. Pettisville’s defensive pressure immediately disrupted North Central’s rhythm, forcing multiple turnovers and rushed shots.

North Central struggled at the basket. Despite earning a few free throw opportunities early in the game, they came up empty several times.

Meanwhile, Pettisville capitalized on second-chance opportunities and free throws, stretching their lead even further. Sophia Beltz added a key bucket late in the period, and Pettisville closed out the quarter up 13-3.

The second quarter became a grind for both teams. Possession after possession featured more passing sequences, but from North Central, often involving Cailyn Meyers, Anna Burt, and Amalia Lawson, but Pettisville’s rotations consistently shut down driving lanes.

North Central had several trips to the line but struggled to convert.

Pettisville wasn’t scoring at the same pace as the first, but the Blackbirds made the most of the opportunities presented to them.

Miller knocked down free throws, Strauss kept finding space inside, and Pettisville used offensive rebounds to limit the Eagles’ chances of catching up.

Both teams traded turnovers in the final minutes, and the half ended with Pettisville ahead 19-5. North Central opened up the third quarter with improved energy, finally connecting on multiple field goals.

Lawson scored from both inside as well as beyond the arc, helping the Eagles get closer to closing the gap that Pettisville created early in the game.

Pettisville briefly stumbled with a couple of turnovers and empty possessions but recovered behind Strauss’s strong play along with a timely three-pointer from Miller, one of only two threes for Pettisville during the game.

After a series of fouls and free-throw attempts on both sides, Pettisville regained full control when Strauss went 2-for-2 from the line late in the period, and the Blackbirds maintained a 27-16 lead heading into the fourth.

The Blackbirds then opened up the fourth by settling back into their offensive rhythm. Addison Davis and Miller each contributed critical baskets, and Pettisville’s interior passing created high-percentage looks throughout the period.

North Central, however, continued to fight, with Lawson adding another three-pointer and Meyers attacking off the dribble, but Pettisville’s defensive rebounding prevented any sustained runs. Beltz was especially impactful on the class, helping secure 24 total team rebounds.

Pettisville’s ball control during the final two minutes of the game ensured that North Central didn’t get any additional possessions, and the Blackbirds closed out the game with a steady final stretch to seal a 37-22 win.

Pettisville (2-3) shot 48% from two-point range (12-for-25) and added two threes and 12 made free throws. North Central struggled inside, going 3-for-21 on twos, but hit four threes and converted 4-of-10 free throws.

North Central (1-4) won the rebounding battle 29-24 and Pettisville finished with fewer turnovers, 11 to North Central’s 15.
