MONTPELIER (November 28, 2023) – It was raining 3s at “The Railyard” on Tuesday night as eight of Montpelier’s 14 field goals were from the deep in a 46-35 win to improve to 2-0 on the season.
A Meara McGee triple opened the scoring for Montpelier before Zoe and Jada Uribes ended the quarter with consecutive long balls to give Montpelier a 12-7 lead.
Montpelier continued the hot shooting in the second quarter with Aleigha Hillard and Jada Uribes adding three pointers to go with a bucket from Kelsie Bumb during an 8-0 run by the Locos to stretch the lead to 20-8 with 3:58 left in the half.
Edgerton would go cold from the field by going 0/14 as their only points in the quarter came at the foul line as Montpelier led 22-9 at halftime.
A three-point play on the low block by Jada Uribes increased the lead to 27-12 but a bucket inside by Edgerton’s Gretchen Keppler and a three-pointer by Alivia Farnham led a 5-0 spurt cut the Loco lead to 27-17 at the 4:16 mark of the third quarter.
Montpelier responded following a timeout as Jada Uribes buried a corner three and McGee hit her second triple of the night from the left wing to push the lead to 33-17 with 2:56 left in the third.
Zoe Uribes started the final stanza with Montpelier’s eighth and final three-pointer of the night and later Lyla Mahan split a pair at the foul line to make it 37-23 Montpelier.
Farnham would then put the Bulldogs on her back by scoring seven straight points thanks to a steal and layup for a conventional three-point play, a make from long range, and then 1/2 at the free throw line to make it 37-30.
That was as close as Edgerton could get in the fourth quarter as Zoe Uribes stopped the run with a field goal and Montpelier went 7/10 at the charity stripe down the stretch to salt away a 46-35 win.
Montpelier finished the night 8/18 from beyond the arc led by three triples from Jada Uribes who had a team-high 14 points.
Farnham tallied a game-high 18, including 10 in the final quarter, to pace the Bulldogs while Keppeler added 10.
