Helen Grandey (1927 – 2024)

Helen E. Grandey, 96, of Edgerton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.

Helen was born December 28, 1927, in Williams County, Ohio, daughter of the late Lewis and Nellie (Jones) North. She attended Hickory Grove School and graduated in 1946 from Edgerton High School.

On June 4, 1950, she married Virgil D. Grandey, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1999. Helen was a homemaker till her children were out of school, then worked as a dietary aide at Park View Nursing Home in Edgerton for 23 years, retiring in 2008.


She was an advisor for the Lucky Lassies 4-H Club for 10 years, and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

In more recent years, Helen enjoyed reading, completing puzzles and word searches, and in her younger years, helping around the farm and canning.

She leaves behind four children, Martha (Dale) Greer of Novi Michigan, Carl (Shari) Grandey of Stryker, Ohio, Karen Santos of Houston, Texas, and Tim (Kelly) Grandey of Hicksville, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two siblings, Dean North of Bryan, Ohio, and Rosie Renn of Marion, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Grace North and Gloria North, both of Bryan, Ohio. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 49 years, Virgil; and 10 siblings.


Private graveside services for Helen E. Grandey will take place at Williams Center Cemetery, Williams Center, Ohio, with CHP Chaplain Larry Kennedy officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
