Herbert “Chuck” Leininger, Jr. 71 of Montpelier died Wednesday afternoon at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance. He was born on June 20th 1941 in Henry County, Ohio to Herbert G.J. and Mary M. (Miller) Leininger. Chuck attended Ayersville local school system and Indiana-Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Chuck served his country in the Army National Guard.
Chuck was a farmer in both Williams and Defiance Counties. He also worked at B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn, Indiana as a tire builder. More recently Chuck worked for HADA construction in Pioneer.
Chuck was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Burlington, the Montpelier Moose and the Pioneer American Legion.
He is survived by a daughter Carol (Robert) Polter of Montpelier, a son LaVon “Chuck” (Pat) Leininger of Reading, PA, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, two step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, two brothers Jay (Rita) Leininger of Defiance, Allen (Donna) Leininger of Port St. Lucie, FL, four sisters Marlene F. Leininger of Defiance, Mary Jean (Lee) Hall of Fitzgerald, GA, Rose (Bill) Wexler of Defiance, Vikki and (Marvin) Mast of Archbold, and a brother in-law Jim Sponsler of Montpelier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita Rose “Toots”(Sponsler) and a sister Sharon Haines.
Visitation hours for Chuck were on Friday, September 14th from 4-8 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier. Services were held Saturday at 2 pm at St. James Lutheran Church in Burlington, Ohio with Pastor James C. Strawn to officiate. Interment followed at St. James Cemetery in Archbold.
