Hermine O. Starkey

Hermine “Tena” O. StarkeyHermine “Tena” O. Starkey, age 82, of Ida, MI and formerly of Delta, OH, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Swanton Health Care; one month after her husband’s passing. Hermine was born in Toledo on September 12, 1933 to the late Carl and Hermine (Niederhoff) Winseman. She met her husband, Jack while at a Fulton County Saddle Club’s Square Dance on Horseback. They were united in marriage in Delta on May 31, 1952 and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2016.

Before retiring, Tena drove school bus for Bedford Public Schools for over 30 years. She and her husband opened and operated Jack’s Leather and The Hitchin’ Rail in Southwyck and North Towne Malls. Together they shared many hobbies including their love of horses, members of the Chapter C Goldwing Motorcycle Club, camping, leather crafting, music, travel and University of Michigan college football.

Hermine is survived by her children, Jon (Twila) Starkey, Suzanne (Michael) Arnold and Debora (Thomas) VanWormer all of Ida, MI; sister, Peggy Rigg; brother, Robert (Paige) Winseman; 6 grandchildren, Treg Getzinger, Tracey (Frank) Castillo, Tyrah (David) Deller, Justin (Kari) Arnold, Tasha (Adam) Barrick and Korey Starkey; 10 great grandchildren, Drew, Haley and Corey Getzinger, Jackson Wertenberger, Grace Castillo, Isabelle, Kinsey and Hope Arnold, Alice and Dexter Deller.

In addition to her parents and husband Jack of 63 years, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Winseman, Jr.


Friends and family will be received from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta; where a funeral service honoring Tena’s life will begin at 12:00 PM. Pastor Eric Markovich will be officiating. Interment will follow at Raker Cemetery in Delta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 Taylor St., Delta, Ohio 43515 or Swanton Health Care, 214 Munson Rd., Swanton, Ohio 43558 in her memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
