The Mill Creek West Unity Local Schools Board of Education met briefly April 17.

The board paid the bills and heard from the elementary school and high school principals.

Highlights from the elementary school report:

  • DARE Graduation for the fifth graders: The ceremony was the culmination of an 11-week program. In addition to Deputy Paul McCord, West Unity Mayor Peg Bernath and Police Chief JR Jones were on hand.
  • The school screened 41 children for Kindergarten March 30-31.
  • The mobile dentist came March 16-17. The school had 49 students served this spring. The normally one-day event was stretched out to 1 ½ days.

The junior and senior high report congratulated 22 students for being recognized by their teachers as Students of the Month for March.

Ethan Dunson, Austin Schaffner and Sam Shilling earned their State FFA degrees.

Junior High students heard from a variety of guest speakers about careers. Careers presented included a business consultant, detective, attorney, cosmetologist, and salesperson.
