(September 18th, 2014)-PIONEER: With a crowd of rowdy students at each end of the gym, Hilltop and North Central squared on Thursday. Host North Central played tough all night, but the Lady Cadets were able to bring a win back to West Unity when it was all said and done.
Hilltop took game 1 25-18 to start the match. The Lady Eagles were undeterred, and redoubled their efforts in the second set. They fell just short of victory, however, losing the game 22-25. Game 3 saw the Cadets build a big lead early into the set. North Central chipped away, almost coming back. Hilltop was able to hold on, though, taking the set and the match 25-18.
Allie Schmitt had a big game for Hilltop, making 8 kills and 10 digs on the evening. Sister Baylee Schmitt was also impressive for the Cadets, netting 13 assists, 5 kills, 4 digs, and 3 aces. Cierra Grant patrolled the net for Hilltop, coming up with 3 blocks and 3 kills in addition to her 6 digs.
Makayla Hayes made 11 passes for North Central. Teammate Cady VanDeVoorde made 10 serves and 3 kills. Alyssa Swank had 9 serves as well in the losing effort.
