Hilltop Schools provided a unique and exciting lunch for students K-12 on Tuesday November 20th. Bringing together Ohio State Buckeye Fans and Michigan Wolverine fans the cafeteria was the place to be. As part of this activity the lunchroom added to the experience with a team based lunch of O-H-I-O Hotdog, Brutus bean dip, Touchdown Tostito’s, Bo Banana’s or Schembechler strawberries, Buckeye’s for dessert and Maize Milk. Students who purchased the team based lunch got to slip their name into the box represented by their favorite team in hopes of winning a prize. Despite all the new lunch food regulations, set by the United States Department of Agriculture, given to Miss Ellie Shinhearl, Hilltop’s food service manager, she finds fun ways to promote healthy eating. Miss Ellie has come up with simple ways to get students to make smart healthy decisions at lunch time. She has notice that just by simply changing the names of a food, for example broccolis to trees, more students choose to eat healthy because it’s something new and fun. This was a team effort event with School Board Member Brian Wieland grilling the hot dogs, Mrs. Goods Class making the buckeyes and many anonymous donors for the prizes that included OSU and Michigan apparel, cups, flags and more. Students look forward to seeing what Miss Ellie and the Hilltop cafeteria will come with next! Follow what Hilltop schools are doing to promote healthy eating at www.hilltop.k12.oh.us/cafe-staff.
