The Metamora Area Historical Society welcomed visitors to its latest exhibit, a quilt show held inside the historic village house.
Featuring both modern and antique pieces, the collection highlighted the deep ties between local residents and the fabric arts that have long been part of community life.
All of the quilts on display came from Metamora and area residents, with many of the newer pieces provided by historical society members.
The exhibit was curated to show a variety of time periods, with quilts ranging from feed sack fabric creations to those sewn from family clothing.
Alongside the quilts, the show included examples of tatting, embroidery, crocheting, braided rugs, and antique sewing equipment, including two early sewing machines and a spinning wheel.
Cheryl Geer of the Historical Society explained that the goal of the event was not only to display beautiful handmade items but to draw new interest to the historical society itself.
In addition to the quilts, guests could explore the house, view a local genealogy collection, and learn more about Metamora’s early settlers, including the Czech families who arrived in connection with the area’s once-thriving beet factory.
The society emphasized that most of the items on display were loaned or donated by people from the area, underscoring the community-driven nature of the event.
As part of its continued growth, the group hopes to host more creative, history-rich activities to keep residents engaged and aware of the organization’s role in preserving Metamora’s past.
