1908 vintage photo of the E.B. Corwin blacksmith shop in Williams Center, Ohio
BLACKSMITH … In the horse and buggy days, nearly every community had one or more blacksmith shops to shoe horses and to make or repair metal items. On November 12, 1864, Stephen W. Corwin purchased Nicholas Murphy’s Williams Center blacksmith shop at the intersection of Bryan Street (Ohio Route 2) and West Street (Ohio Route 576), just north of South Street (Williams-Defiance County Line Road). Stephen’s son Edgar and grandson Hugh (Pete) Corwin carried on the blacksmith trade in Williams Center for many years. This circa 1908 vintage image shows Edgar Corwin (left), with his nephew Pete Corwin (right), Pete’s wife Adelpha (Reeder) Corwin (center) and Pete and Adelpha’s son Stephen George Corwin (born in 1906) at the Williams Center blacksmith shop. This historic photograph is from the Williams County Public Library Huffman Photographic Archives. Do you have a Williams County Historic photo you would like to share?
