On Friday, August 29, a team of seven Home Depot volunteers joined H.O.O.V.E.S. in Swanton to begin work on a new project designed to improve the health and well-being of the horses that serve in the organization’s programs.
The volunteers, coordinated by Chris Nagel, represented multiple area Home Depot stores. Their efforts focused on cleaning up tree lines along the pasture fence and moving fencing to the arena to prepare the space for a new track system.
The track will be built by installing a second line of fencing approximately 25 feet inside the existing perimeter. This design creates a loop that encourages horses to walk longer distances in order to reach food.
The system reduces idle grazing and promotes steady movement, which supports stronger hooves, improved circulation, and better overall health.
H.O.O.V.E.S. views the addition of the track system as an important step in strengthening the herd that plays a central role in its programs.
By creating an environment that stimulates natural movement and activity, the organization is ensuring its horses remain healthy and capable of supporting those who come to the facility for healing and restoration.
The support of Home Depot volunteers provided significant progress toward the project, which will have lasting benefits for both the horses and the individuals served by H.O.O.V.E.S.
