WAUSEON: February 25, 2014 – The Montpelier Locomotives opened the D-III Sectionals with a matchup against NWOAL rival Delta on February 25. After an initial sign of success, things rapidly deteriorated for the Locos as Delta went on to post an 87-51 eviction notice from the tourney against Montpelier.

The Locos’ Alex Matzinger hit the ground running in the first period as he poured in seven points and Dalton Surbey added four to lead Montpelier to a tenuous 15-14 lead. The Locos’ wheels began to loosen in the second as Delta regained the lead with a 16-10 run to take a 30-25 lead into the intermission.

The second half saw the wheels totally falling off for Montpelier as Delta outgunned the Boys in Blue 57-26 down the stretch for the win.

The loss spelled the end of the Montpelier hoops career of Parker Houk.

Surbey and Dylan Snyder finished with 10 points apiece for Montpelier, with Matzinger adding 9, and Kyrin Schuman adding 6. Jacob Leung posted 5 points, Jared Shoup had 4 points, Houk and Nate McCord had 3 points apiece, and Michael Blake put in a free throw.
