Ida Holsopple (1927-2022)

Ida Grace (Alwine) Holsopple, age 95, passed into her heavenly home on August 30, 2022.

She was born on August 19, 1927 to John and Sadie Pearl (Thomas) Alwine in Thomas Mills, PA. She was number 9 of 10 siblings.

She grew up helping on the family farm. Ida accepted Christ as her Savior in her youth at Thomas Mennonite Church.

On April 20, 1946 she married Samuel Holsopple. Upon their marriage they started farming on Ham Ridge Road near Davidsville, PA.


In 1955 Sam was called up for service. Ida joined Sam in Rittman, OH to serve in alternate service at Rittman Old Folks Home. After serving two years they returned to the farm near Davidsville, PA.

Ida and Sam remained on the farm till 1987. When they sold the farm and moved to Pettisville, Ohio. After this move, Ida worked at Sauder Village as a housekeeper and a village interpreter.

Ida enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. One of her favorite things was making Christmas cookies with her daughter and grandchildren every year.


Ida enjoyed baking and preparing meals for her loved ones and friends. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed working on quilting projects. She was a member of North Clinton Church in Wauseon.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter; Deb Bindschadler, one granddaughter; Shonah Tillman, two brothers; Walter (Katie) Alwine and Lowell Alwine, seven sisters; Leora (Ernest) Kauffman, Mary Alwine, Naomi (Alvin) Holsopple, Reda (Richard) Kauffman, Edna (Leon) Kauffman, Amy (Elwood) Cable, and Ivie (Lawrence) Short.

She is survived by her children; Samuel R. (Robin) Holsopple, Darla (Chuck) Rohrs, Bill (Beth) Holsopple. Grandchildren; Apryl Nutter, Breanna (Chris) Champagne, Hannah (Todd) Naveau, Daniel Holsopple, and Rebekah Holsopple. Great grandchildren; Dustin Tillman, Trenton Tillman, Taigen Tillman, and Aubree Naveau, three great great grandchildren and one sister-in-law Bernice Alwine.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 3 at North Clinton Church with Pastor Neil Wyse officiating.  Burial followed in the Pettisville Cemetery.


The family suggests that memorials be given to the donor’s favorite charity.
