Several Wauseon track athletes performed at the first day of district track action at Defiance High School Track Wednesday.
Noah Castle and the girls 4×800 relay team advanced to Regional action next week in Dayton. Castle won the shot put competition with a throw of 52-11 while the girls 4×800 relay team had their best time of the year to capture the district crown in that event with a time of 9:55.04. Members of the foursome were Kylie Archibeque, Megan Beck, Aneesa Volkman and Taylor Vernot.
Sally Frank and Brandi Thompson each qualified in the discus for next week’s regional. Frank was second and Thompson third.
Kris Boysel was a district champion in the long jump for the Indians as well with a leap of 20-10.
Several others including Katee Roberts (100 and 300 hurdles), Derrick Kamp (110 and 300 hurdles, and 4×400 relay) and the girls 4×200 relay (Halen Mealer, Lindsey Archibeque, Marin Schaffner and Haley Archibeque) qualified for finals in events to be held Friday evening.
Wyse and Archibeque finished in the top four in the 100 and 200 meter dashes to advance to the finals. Wyse has the fastest time going into the 400 meter final.
Mealer advanced to the final of the 300 meter hurdles along with Roberts. The two finished third and fourth respectively in that preliminary race.
Tabb Gype qualified for the finals in the 400 meters. Gype ran seventh in 52.97.
Quintin Reiser qualified easily in the 800 meters and the 1600 meters.
