Iris I. McCain, age 78, of Montpelier, passed away on Saturday March 30, 2013 at Bryan Care & Rehabilitation Center in Bryan. She was born on February 6, 1935 in Providence, KY to the late Alfred and Corla (McCann) Newman. She graduated from Providence High School in 1953.

Shortly after graduation, Iris made the decision to move to Dayton, Ohio, following one of her brothers who was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Iris began work at the base as a military uniform maker and not long after she met and fell in love with Boyd McCain. They were married on May 18, 1968 in Dayton. Due to Boyd’s career, the family moved often and in 1996 they settled in Montpelier. She was a loving and devoted housewife and mother. Iris was affiliated with River of Life Worship Center. She loved to quilt blankets for family and friends in her free time.

Iris leaves behind two children, Robert (Tennille) McCain of Kunkle, OH and Linda (Timothy) Hogan of Saginaw, MI, eight grandchildren, other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Boyd McCain, son, Bruce McCain, and eight siblings.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 3, 2013 from 3-7 pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier. A memorial service will take place the following morning, Thursday at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Homer L. Miller to officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.
